Montesacro Pinzeria: A Slice of Authentic Roman Culinary Magic in San Francisco Nestled in the heart of San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood, Montesacro Pinzeria is more than just a restaurant--it's a culinary journey to the vibrant streets of Rome. Founded by Gianluca Legrottaglie, this pioneering pinseria brings an innovative twist to the American dining scene, introducing diners to the delicate art of pinsa, a Roman pizza-like delicacy that's both a gastronomic revelation and a testament to traditional Italian cuisine. What sets Montesacro apart is its commitment to authenticity and innovation. The pinsa--crafted from a unique blend of soy, rice, and wheat flour--is a revelation. Crispy on the outside yet remarkably light and soft on the inside, these hand-pressed creations are a far cry from traditional pizzas. Our evening featured three stellar pinzas that showcased the kitchen's mastery: - Ostia: A harmonious blend of flavors that transported us straight to a Roman trattoria - Margherita: A classic reimagined with impeccable ingredient quality - Maranella: A testament to the restaurant's creativity and respect for Roman culinary traditions What truly elevates Montesacro is its deep connection to Roman heritage. Each dish tells a story, each ingredient carefully sourced from local purveyors while maintaining a profound respect for Italian culinary traditions. The menu is a love letter to Rome, with pinsas named after working-class neighborhoods and recipes that speak of family, history, and passion. The homemade panna cotta was the perfect conclusion to our meal--a delicate, creamy dessert that balanced our savory pinsa experience with its subtle sweetness and impeccable More than just a meal, dining at Montesacro feels like being invited into a Roman family's home. The staff encourages sharing, storytelling, and a communal dining experience that goes beyond mere sustenance. Montesacro Pinzeria isn't just a restaurant; it's a culinary portal to Rome. Whether you're a food enthusiast, a lover of Italian cuisine, or simply someone seeking an extraordinary dining experience, Montesacro promises--and delivers--an unforgettable journey . On the top of that, to elevate our dining experience, the extraordinary warmth of the staff. Selvin, our waiter, and Anna, the chef, transformed our meal from simply excellent to genuinely memorable. Their attentive and personable service made us feel less like customers and more like honored guests in a Roman home. With each dish, they shared insights about the menu, the ingredients, and the stories behind the pinzas, creating a dining experience that was as much about connection as it was about cuisine. Delicious Italian spot in the heart of the city. This is an oasis in the 6th and Market St area. While the walk here can be uncomfortable, due to the unhoused and other troubled residents of the area, it's worth the adventure. The pizzas and cheeses are unique (I believe the style of pies comes from a neighborhood in Rome) and flavorful. To be honest, the service was a little slow and they were out of one or two things. But I devoured my Maranella and the Cauliflower Salad is a real treat. And while the area outside is somewhat unsettling, inside the place is deceptively cozy.

Dined in on a Thursday without a reservation at 5:30pm. Got a table right away. Interesting decorations especially in the bathroom. Make sure you check it out. Friendly service. Unfortunately they were out of the octopus. Ordered the porchetta which arrived 10 minutes after ordering and the Montesacro pinsa made out of soy, rice and wheat flour which came 15 minutes after. The porchetta is served cold. It was a nice appetizer, good meat to fat ratio. I'm surprised I've never seen or heard of Pinsa before when I toured Italy. I really like the crispy texture of the crust. It was big enough to share with 2 people. I would get again.

Came on a weeknight and was seated because we had reservations. However, I don't think it's a place you always need reservation. It is situated in a very sketchy part of the neighborhood so that is something to be mindful of when coming here at night. The food is very Italian-based and was pretty good though it is very carb heavy. We ordered the gnocchi (3/5), maranella (5/5; the burrata and mozzarella was so fresh) and panacotta (5/5, it was so light and not overly sweet; it was also drizzled with olive oil which I thought was very unique). I would come back to try the different pizza and the dessert

Hidden Gem! The restaurant gives very European atmosphere inside and has some outdoor and indoor seating, I preferred indoor. We got the Montesacro pizza and it was delicious, I really wanted to try their chestnut honey so I asked for a side of it and spread it on the pizza, loved the sweet and salty combo! They do charge $6 extra for sparkling water. The service was very attentive and took time to explain the menu specials and popular choices.

Have been getting pinsa here for years now. Overall this is one of the most authentic tasting Pinsa's in the bay area, I usually go with the margarita and sometimes add sausage. Crust is great, the cheese and sauce have great flavor and taste very authentic to me.

Food? Creative & Phenomenal? Service? Fast & Attentive Location? Sketchy, but worth the trip out. My friends and I got together for a belated bday lunch and we split 5 pizzas between 7 people. This place does an excellent job at being creative with their toppings & flavors, highly recommend asking the staff for their favorites as we were not disappointed. We got the Torpignattara (very refreshing, loved the potato!), Margherita (a classic, loved that their red sauce is a bit on the tart side), Casal Bertone (the chestnut honey is fantastic!!), Pietralata (the egg makes every very creamy, huge fan), and the Montesacro (lean into the Lamb Sausage). I will definitely be back to try the other combos!
